This 2 Days (1 Night) gorilla trek takes you for mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable National Park in South Western part of Uganda , at the edge of the Western Rift Valley. This impenetrable forest is shared by Kabale, Kanungu, and Kisoro districts. It covers approximately331.5 square kilometers.
Bwindi is home to almost half of the mountain gorillas, one of the upper limit populated in the world’s population of mountain gorillas. There are plenty of bird species and over hundreds of butterfly species. This forest is characterized with dense under storey of fern, vines and shrubs and many more species and approximates to 325 tree species where 10 of which crop up nowhere in Uganda.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali. The guide will take you for a brief Kigali City Tour – Visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site where you will learn about the 1994 Rwanda Genocide that saw almost a million people dead in just a few days. Proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Have Lunch at Kabale, a beautiful town in the Kigezi Region of Uganda. Continue to Bwindi. Check into the lodge and relax all evening.
Overnight at Gift of Nature Lodge (Budget) / Gorilla Mist Camp (Midrange) / Ruhija Safari Lodge (Luxury)
DAY 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
Wake up very early in the morning and take breakfast. The guide will drive you to the park information centre where you will assemble for briefing from the ranger guides about the activity of the day; gorilla trekking in the jungle of Bwindi. Led by the Uganda Wildlife Authority guide, go for the gorilla tracking experience in the forest. The time taken to track gorillas is unpredictable so you carry some snacks for lunch. An encounter of a group of gorillas with one or two silver backs is exhilarating! Upon meeting the gorillas, you have a full hour to watch and photograph the mountain gorillas. After the gorilla trek, return to the park headquarters for the certificate. Embark on a return trip to Kigali, reaching the hotel in the late evening.
